As a simple device, raw materials from different suppliers or batches may vary greatly. This change will affect the ability of the powder to flow freely in the process of entering the production line, thus damaging the efficiency and quality of the manufacturing process. The fluidity index of drug powder measured is in the range of 4-40.

This index can be used as a parameter of raw materials. Many factors affect the fluidity of powder, such as:

Particle size and shape, fineness, unit surface area, actual density,

Bulk density, porosity, sedimentation characteristics, electrostatic charge


The inherent fluidity test method is based on the ability that the powder can freely pass through the small hole on the disc. This device has a group of 19 discs, and the hole diameter ranges from 4mm to 34mm. When used in pharmaceutical production, the device fully meets the requirements of usp1174 powder fluidity test.
